Wheatgrass
Juice |
|
|
| |
Wheatgrass juice can easily be made at home in the kitchen. It is
an extremely nutritious juice containing many vitamins, minerals
and enzymes beneficial to health. It is a good source of vitamins
B and E, amino acids, magnesium and phosphorous. It is very economical
to make, and usually tolerated even by those people who have an
intolerance to wheatflour. First grow your wheatgrass.......

Grow
your Wheatgrass |
|
|
| |
(Instructions
are on our packets of Wheat seeds)
Sow a tray of seeds once a fortnight for a continual supply
Place
white kitchen roll sheets at the base of a large shallow plastic
tub or a bought 1/2 size plastic seed tray. Wet the paper. Spread
the wheat seeds fairly thickly over the paper. Leave in a warm place.
It
is important to check twice daily that the paper does not dry out.
Soak the tray with water and let drain off.
When
the wheat seedlings are 3cm tall, place the tray in the light to
go green. It will soon look like a little lawn. Grow on to 5 to
6 cms tall. Continue to make sure the seedlings have enough water.
Your
wheatgrass can be grown using a thin layer of seed compost in a
seedtray instead of kitchen roll. The wheat seedlings will keep
going for longer, will re-grow and can be harvested several times.

Use
an electric blender as used for making soup, etc.
Snip 3 cm off the wheatgrass with scissors (mow the grass!) and
place the cut wheatgrass in the blender goblet. Add approximately
a pint of water. Switch on for 10 seconds. Repeat several times
so that the wheatgrass is well chopped up in the water. Sieve off
the fibrous bits, and save the green wheatgrass juice in a closed
container. It will keep in the refrigerator for 3 to 4 days.

Getting
used to your high-energy drink |
|
|
| |
Wheatgrass
juice is a high-energy drink. It takes a bit of getting used to.
You may wish to blend just a spooonful to apple juice to start with.
Or you can make a delicious fruit/vegetable juice in your blender
to which you can add a little Wheatgrass juice. We highly recommend
using apple juice as a base, as it is relatively cheap for a one-litre
carton.
Pour
1/2 litre apple juice into the blender. Add 1/2 sweet yellow pepper,
and, if liked, one radish. Switch on. Sieve. Chill. Add a teaspoon
of Wheatgrass juice and drink ! Delicious as a before-dinner drink.
